Innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Workforce Development Project (iSTEM-Work)

Program Overview                                                                                                                

iSTEM-Work Project will provide underrepresented minority students with STEM challenging technological learning experiences that will increase exposure to innovation and creativity in STEM disciplines.

iSTEM-Work will explore the influence of opportunities on students’ interest by 1) increasing student awareness and knowledge of educational opportunities and careers in STEM disciplines; 2) increasing student knowledge, skills, and practices in STEM application; and 3) increasing participation of underrepresented populations in STEM career paths.

This project will engage Black Male students in grades 6 through 10 in a long-term (3 year) STEM technology program that will include a four-week Summer Program, Hands-on Field Experience, and Saturday Academy during the academic year. This program contains the following culturally sustaining elements: 1) academic and social integration; 2) knowledge and skill development; 3) support and motivation; and 4) academic and social advising, which supplement the formal education that participants receive within their classroom and ultimately impacts students’ confidence, academic outcome, and STEM career choices.
